Guiding Principles for the Celebration:

We are a model event for sustainability. Events and activities are zero or  low emissions. All material is recycled or composted.
We are a community supported event run by volunteers.
We impart information, we do not prescribe a way of life.
We promote communities and positive interactions between groups of people who want to live sustainably.
We promote high-quality, locally grown food and locally sourced services that are affordable.
We support products and services that are good or benign for the environment.
The festival is accessible and affordable to everyone. No one is turned away for lack of funds.
The festival is fun, informative, and non-threatening.

What is living sustainably?

Living sustainably means meeting your basic needs without compromising the ability of future generations to  meet their basic needs. As a global community we are not meeting this goal as it currently requires 1.5 planet Earth’s to feed and sustain humanity (www.footprintnetwork.org). Living sustainably implies that our economy and society can exist without destroying the natural environment on which they depend. We are all passengers in this lifeboat called Earth and will need to work together to keep it afloat.
