Seafood Throwdown
Two local chefs compete in a cooking competition inspired by local seafood. Each participant brings only their favorite cooking vessels/utensils, presentation plates and three of their favorite ingredients. Once there, they discover the secret seafood ingredient and are provided with a selection of fresh local produce from South Shore Organics to use as as their pantry. Then they have an hour to prepare, cook and plate their dish for three judges. The throwdown begins at 11:30am. Read more
Live Music & Entertainment
We are thrilled to announce that local Boston band Melodeego will be our top-billed entertainment for this day-long fest. Their sound combines rock, soul, R & B and occasional hip-hop. The band consists of three guys committed to making music and providing a voice to this generation of young people. Inspired to do something about our reliance on fossil fuels after the massive BP oil spill, they created a bicycle-powered sound system which is part of their show. They are not just singing about change, but living it! Melodeego will be playing 2 sets: 1:30pm - 2:30pm and 3:00 - 4:00 pm. Check them out at www.melodeego.com.
Kids Corner & Activities
Our children’s tent this year will include activities provided by the Hanson Children's Museum. We were going to make corn husk dolls, decorate pumpkins, make bug bandanas, and make our own play dough. A Cranberry Bog workshop will be fun and informative! Last year parents had a hard time getting their kids to leave the fun.
Electronics Recycle Station
We are pleased to announce that METECH Recycling has signed up for a second year with South Shore Celebration! Bring all your obsolete dinosaur relics and just plain unwanted electronics. Metech guarantees that all electronics they recycle are disposed of in an environmentally safe fashion. They will accept pretty much anything with a plug or a power source. All data sensitive material, like hard drives, will be shred at their facility. All other material, like the plastic, metal, glass, etc., will be dismantled from the electronics, separated by type, and sent off to various manufacturers to be reused. There will be some fees involved with recycling. Click here for a list of acceptable items.
Peavey Farm Animals
A special thank you to Susan Peavey & her family for bringing their farm animals to our event this year. Come see Alpaca's, Sheep, Goats and Cows. This is sure to be a fun time for all ages.
Workshops/Demos
Learn along with us. We’ll be offering many accessible and practical demonstrations on going throughout the Celebration! Look for our special tables in both the Food and Green Tents. This year we're excited to be partnering with The Magical Moon Foundation. A gift basket of items from participating vendors will be raffled off during the event and the proceeds will be donated to the foundation.
The Magical Moon Foundation is located at Magical Moon Farm 575 Summer Street in Marshfield and a 501(C)(3) organization nurturing and empowering children with cancer. Visit our website at www.magicalmoon.org and read about some pretty amazing young children who through the our foundation become knights who take on missions to build a healthy earth kingdom. They live in this brave, noble manner in honor of their cancer so that more children will never have to follow this difficult path. Please visit our farm stand, our retreat and huge organic garden and learn more about what you can do to keep your children safe and healthy while supporting our mission and our young knights and their families. |
